Before you write
Questions, kept short.
The answers below are the ones we give across the gallery bench, in the same few words. Anything further, send word — a person replies, not a desk.
Not in the usual sense. The rooms open by appointment — morning slots, one party at a time. Write the evening before and the east blinds will be raised for you.
The Frieze Fragments are original carved stone with documented provenance, each recorded in our ledger before it ever hangs. Studio Casts and Editions are taken from the atelier’s master moulds and are always labelled as such — the wall label never lies.
Quietly. You enquire, we talk, the piece is held for you while you decide. Nothing is rushed, nothing is discounted, and no piece is sold to a room we believe will harm it.
Yes. Every acquisition travels in a bespoke crate with the same conservators who mount it in our rooms. We oversee installation ourselves wherever the piece is going to live.
Away from hard afternoon sun and radiators, at a stable humidity, on a proper mount. We hang every piece we sell and leave you a one-page care note — after that, stone mostly asks to be left alone.
Occasionally, when a collector’s circumstances change, a piece comes back through our hands first — that was the agreement when it left. Returning stone is re-examined, re-labelled, and offered again by appointment.
A note on visiting
Come in the morning, if you can.
The friezes were carved for raking light, and the rooms face east to oblige them. Between eight and ten the relief stands its tallest; by afternoon the stone rests, and so do we.
